Preparing For a Job Interview

When considering a candidate, interviewers focus on many things from the candidate’s personal appearance to their choice of attire and manners. Personal appearance is not just concerned with beauty but hygiene and neatness are equally important. Employers will choose those candidates who are best able to positively promote their company. This is something of which you should be aware especially at the time of the interview. Whenever you are attending an interview you should ensure that you are dressed properly, preferably in a suit and that your hair is appropriately groomed. There are certain other considerations that are mandatory when preparing for a job interview:

* Research the company: This is a vital task when preparing for a job interview. You may choose to search on the internet to explore the company. You should know these important things about the company: – Company history, products and its establishment – Company’s growth, its size and branches across world or country – Current news about the company and any significant developments within the company – Whether the management team is global or national, company goal, its position in world rank and niche in market.

* Research the job for which you are applying: Analyze the job description, taking advantage of contacts you may have. The company website may be helpful here: – what exactly will you be expected to do and what will be your position in company – previous employees’ comments regarding the job – any modification that has been made to this position

* Practice the possible questions concerning yourself: Think professionally and study your resume well. Record all information regarding your educational achievements and any special qualifications. You will need to prepare answers to the common questions so that you know them by heart.

* Be responsive: Practice these questions by yourself aloud until you feel confident in answering them. Try to be specific when you are answering and present supportive examples that will satisfy the interviewer. Be positive and speak honestly, but at the same time avoid mentioning past mistakes.

* Attire for interview: Be aware of what your choice of attire as your first impression is a lasting impression. Wear professional attire and ensure that you have a neat hairstyle. Avoid wearing strong perfume, heavy make up and too much jewelery. Try to look the part.

* Have questions prepared for the interviewer: In most interviews you will be given the opportunity to ask questions to clarify any concerns you may have. For this you should prepare at least one question, preferably more. Ensure that the questions are logical. Your choice of questions will showcase your inquisitive nature as well as your interest in the company.

* What NOT to ask in interview: You should never ask a direct question regarding the salary and benefits associated with the position. Should the interviewer consider you for the position, these facts will be revealed to you at an appropriate time.
